I worked with digital consultancy Ghost Partners to name and design a new global events brand for New Zealand Story. I was tasked with the initial concepting, copywriting, and art direction and remained on the project to design and author the brand guidelines and destination website.

Building a New Zealand brand for the world to look to

Eyes on NZ is an emerging online hub for major events in Aotearoa New Zealand. When worldwide attention turns to events hosted here, Eyes On NZ provides a fresh perspective, offering useful information, updates, and stories about the positive impact global events can have on our local communities.

The strategy was to launch the brand in the lead-up to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™, when the whole world would be watching our country. Since then, the brand has flourished, supporting a range of events, including Winter Games NZ 2023, Equalize Women’s Speaker Series, Crankworx Rotorua 2024, ITM New Zealand SailGran Prix, and the World Choir Games.

It was crucial for the Eyes On NZ brand to sit comfortably alongside the established New ZealandStory brand while remaining distinctive and exciting for a consumer-facing audience—a different audience than New Zealand Story usually speaks to. As the ongoing stewardship of the brand would fall to New Zealand Story’s internal marketing and communication teams, the brand also needed to be well-articulated and easy to create using a range of production tools, from Adobe to PowerPoint to Canva to Figma.
