HOOF worked with Storybox to direct Hei Matariki, an animated short created with and for the Porirua community.
The film was developed in collaboration with writer Patricia Grace and her granddaughter Miriama Grace-Smith. It told a simple family story centred on nine children, each named after a star in the Matariki cluster.
Projected onto the exterior of Te Rauparaha Arena, the film was presented in te reo Māori and English and screened on a continuous loop across the Matariki long weekend. Local children and the Paekākāriki Kapa Haka Group contributed voices and performance, supported by an original waiata and score.
